My goal was to reach 50,000 words on 11/19 and I did. I took yesterday off to not write for the first time in weeks. I have decided I will continue to write the 50,000 word novel, The Dairy Door over the next week to see how far I can get. Gentleman Companion Two is currently being edited and I am grateful for those who have stepped up to take on the tiring job. I wish you all a festive Thanksgiving day. Patricia
Today was the half way party at Seattle Richard Hugo House for the Seattleites participating in the November Novel Writing month. I was one of the few that was a first timer, listening to many participating in their 6th event. Word counts varied from 10,000 to 80,000. I sat comfortably in the middle with my count now at 32,410. One of our challenges was to write as many words as we could in ten minutes or known as a sprint. After the third attempt, I am now the proud owner of a plastic cupcake duck for writing 607 words. I met a couple, winter newlyweds, he was joining his new wife this year, a first time entry. The room was filled with claps for everyone who reached a ten "mark", ten thousand, twenty, thirty etc. As the morning continued there were claps for people just walking in the room. A wonderful experience, finished with a cake crowned with a duck.
The last chapter of Gentleman Companion Two is almost complete, my writing time for tomorrow. Today validated for me that our world is filled with people who have words they wish to share. A day I will not forget. And so I ask you, when was the last time you put your thoughts into a word? Patricia Today (Day 10) I reached 25,000 words. I have had to stop working on November novel briefly to finish the second to last chapter in Gentleman Companion Two. I will be returning to the November novel later on today. Saturday there will be a party at Richard Hugo House the writing universe for us Seattle writers. The party is booked as our halfway party inviting us to meet, greet, enjoy cake and write. I think I just might meet and greet. However, most importantly I will high five everyone for writing one word or thousands of words. What a journey this has become!.
Click open my page on my lates happenings and a counter at the bottom of the page will show my daily progress. Patricia I think it is fair to say that as I complete Gentleman Companion Two, and begin the new novel, my eyes have grown a little weary after writing over 5,000 words a day with the two books. I have folders with research for the new book, research books arriving in the mail and an expandable pocket folder with my notes and ideas for Gentleman Companion Two. Surprisingly it is very easy to write both books, two different storylines. One a fictional story of a neighborhood in the 1950's with a common thread, the milkman who delivered milk bottles to homes. Gentleman Companion Two features the return of the main character Lawrence with eight dates, one who returned from the first cruise. I find myself looking for the details of each date to include foods, costumes and even the insides of an engine room! I did not meet other regional writers last week; the location had moved and was located further from my home. I still hope to meet other writers this week.
However, I did receive a CD in the mail yesterday as part of the music exchange. Writers agree to send three burned CDs to other writers and in return receive three CDs back. I listened to the music she had sent today and it was very upbeat. I decided to use her music as my incentive for the morning to write. Until my next post, please wish me continued words. Patricia Today I began writing my new novel. I am not quite ready to share the storyline as it in unfolding and I am not sure if I may change it midstream. I received another research book today, which is helping in developing the story, but there are limited resources available. The difference between this book and Gentleman Companion One is I am relying on research ideas and information to guide me. With my existing book, the story evolved from my own life experiences traveling and meeting people. This writing is much different, but I exceeded my 1800 word goal today. I am still balancing the new novel with the second book in the Gentleman Companion Series. I find myself writing constantly, the smallest idea I can expand upon at that moment or later in the day. I plan to meet other writers with November Novel Month in a few days. I will share with you my experience. Patricia
